The breech end in front of the receiver is marked "45-70". The barrel has late pattern Winchester style markings with the two-line address/patent dates on top of the barrel over the forend cap/barrel band with a single "NICKEL STEEL" marking on the left, rear side of the barrel. This example has the fast taper, 22 inch barrel with a beaded blade front sight and the sporting, elevation adjustable rear sight. This rifle was manufactured and shipped in Sept 1906, then returned for repair in January 1911. This rifle is accompanied by a Winchester factory letter that verifies this configuration. This is a desirable example of a late production "special order" Winchester Model 1886 lightweight rifle with the takedown feature, nickel steel barrel, plain trigger, full length magazine and a shotgun butt. ![]()
